About the Event

Join us for a weekend delving into outdoor living practises and skills that connect us with the Earth.

A family friendly camp out exploring various bushcraft skills in a village like setting.

As a species, we have evolved with and a part of the natural environment, all of our senses and physiology are wired to be outdoors! So when we re-learn the ways of our land-based ancestors we unlock very primal aspects of ourselves and where we have come from.

These skills are innate within every human, we have just been placed out of context within this modern world that has been built away from nature.

These weekend camp outs are great opportunities to up-skill your bush survival knowledge, learn to feel more at home in the bush and take various skills away with you to practise.

This will be Wild Beings 3rd year of running these gatherings, formerly called "Ancestral Skills Gatherings".

The workshops we will be sharing:

  • Fire by friction

How to make primitive fire, a hands-on workshop practising 2 different methods, Hand Drill & Bow drill. Learn what materials to use and how to make a fire kit.

  • Shelter Building

Learn the basics of building a shelter in this ecology, different styles, water proofing.

  • Traditional cooking methods

Learn various cooking on the fire methods & learn to make wild jerky.

  • Natural rope/string making

Learn how to harvest bark from a brush kurrajong tree to make rope.

  • Wild Foods and Medicines

Learn various bush foods and medicines with a guided wild foods walk around the property.

These practical bush skills will be interwoven with various other knowledge about rewilding and how to connect deeper with our local ecology and birdlife.

We will have Indigenous story and culture shared over the weekend by local First Nation people.

We respect our local Mob deeply and the relationships we have.

Arrive: 2pm Friday December 1st

Finish: 3pm Sunday December 3rd

The intention of this gathering is to bring you into the natural world and teach skills that enable you to feel closer to the earth and empower you to be more comfortable in the bush and have fun!

This is a family friendly gathering, all ages welcome. These skills are for all ages, we will have multiple mentors present in each workshop though we ask that you are responsible for your young ones during the workshops. This creates a safe space for all involved.
