About the Event
Come and learn how to make fire the way our ancestors have for the last couple of hundred thousand years.
Fire has been human’s greatest ally for an unimaginable amount of time. The use of fire has shaped us into the version of humans we are today.
We all know the feeling of sitting by the fire, it is a primordial relationship that is innate within us all
Learning how to make fire from what the earth provides Is a gateway to learning how to do what humans have been doing for a very long time & providing yourself with a useful new skill. (nothin beats the feeling of creating an ember! Woohoo the clan can eat be warm & eat tonight!)
These workshops are a combination of fun, skill & determination. Learning friction fire is incredibly rewarding & has so much to offer in regards to patience and perseverance, like all new skills, requires practise to build relationship.
The workshop includes:
In depth lesson & history of the two methods (hand drill & bow drill)
Materials & how to harvest them ethically
Making your own bow drill kit
Hands on workshops on both methods
Percussion fire demo & workshop
Mentoring & tips by facilitators
Knife safety
Educational hands outs on primitive fire methods & materials
Lunch & bush tea provided
What you will need:
Water bottle
Hat
Knife if you have one
Camp chair
Camp mug for tea
Notepad
You will leave with the knowledge on what materials you need, how to prepare them & how to make your own fire by friction kit! And a deeper relationship with our ancient fire friend.
Location: Private bush block in Laguna, 15 minutes from Wollombi. 1.5 hours from the Central Coast & Newcastle.
There is an option to camp overnight on the saturday, if so, bring your camping gear!
